🤖 AI Reads
The Illusion of Progress: Re-evaluating Hallucination Detection in LLMs
Notes: I love this quote from the abstract (read all of section 6: “The Length Factor: A Hidden Signal in Hallucination Detection”). Just counting the length of the response (dirt cheap to run 🤣) achieves competitive performance with other complex hallucination detection methods.
Moreover, our analysis reveals that simple heuristics based on response length can rival complex detection techniques, exposing a fundamental flaw in current evaluation practices.
Small Language Models are the Future of Agentic AI
Notes: YES!
Introducing Gemma 3 270M: The Compact Model for Hyper-Efficient AI
Notes: Incredibly small model designed and optimized for running on low-power devices. #Edge-AI #SLM
GLM-4.5: Agentic, Reasoning, and Coding (ARC) Foundation Models
Notes: Technical report about GLM-4.5. Great paper, but quite long.
FFmpeg 8.0 Adds Whisper Support
Notes: This is just a link to the PR, but this is awesome to see! Audio transcription can now be natively added to any application that already uses FFmpeg (think OBS Studio, Handbrake, etc).
Awesome MCP Servers & Awesome Claude Code Subagents
Notes: Curated, open source lists for your reference.
💼 Business Reads
From Gucci to Rolex: The Rise and Fall of Luxury in Music
Notes: It seems luxury watch demand is continuing to decline, especially with all the Swiss trading uncertainty. This article makes a great point about the incomparable Virgil Abloh’s impact on LVMH. For long time subscribers, y’all know I love Virgil. Read #9 if you’re curious as to why. Also, #9 is the first time Meta’s Llama model was mentioned in this newsletter.
AI Flight Pricing Can Push Travelers to the Limit of Their Ability to Pay
Notes: Read this if you care about travel affordability.
A2 Milk to Buy New Zealand Formula Plant to Target China Growth
Notes: For my MIT classmates, A2 is still at it! 🥹
